Hollow Semblance by Elissia Kimball

Hollow Semblance by Elissia Kimball is on view at The Corridor Gallery starting May 8 through mid-June. The exhibition originated as a collection of 70 poems exploring themes of nature, existentialism, disillusionment, mental or physical illness, healing, and starting over. The paintings transport the view into an imagined space of the poetry both harmonious and thought provoking. Overall, the artist’s goal is to inspire people to consider the ways that a person can change or start over in the search for self-actualization.

Kimball says of the paintings, “I look at the ways a person might try to satisfy their deepest primal urges, without losing control. Conversely, I consider the ways that a person can reject their humanity by self isolating, silencing themselves, and accepting defeat. The paintings transport one to an imagined space, where hints of gold pull you down fragile paths, and into a surreal landscape, where all things seem possible.”

Elissia Kimball, originally from Southern Illinois, has a  BA in Art History from SIUC. Kimball’s  passion for art began at an early age by watching her grandmother paint. By looking at art every day, Kimball studies brushstrokes, color and subject matter.

The Corridor Gallery is located in the Carbondale Civic Center. View the exhibition Monday through Friday from 8:30am – 5pm. To purchase artwork, please contact Artspace 304 at exhibits@artspace304.org or call 618.457.5100
